Categories

1. Animation / Anime

Guidelines

  • In this category, we are looking for films with visually compelling narratives that bring imagination to life. While animation is more of a medium rather than a genre, we are designating a specific category to celebrate this type of filmmaking.

    • Children's cartoons or anime would be a great fit for this category.

  • Films that featured an animation aesthetic are also welcome in other categories. Use your best judgement when submitting.

    • For example in the Horror / Thriller category of our Film division, you could submit a Tim Burton-inspired stop motion short.

    • For example in our Asia Pop / Pop category of our Music division, you could submit a J-Pop anime music video.

  • In particular, we will be looking for films should showcase the 12 Principles of Animation such as squash and stretch, anticipation, and timing.

  • All animation styles are welcome from 2D, 3D, stop motion, claymation, to everything in-between.

Requirements

  • Submission: Submitted via a YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, or Instagram link that's publicly viewable.

  • Permissions: Contains only Music, IP, Footage, and Likenesses that that you have permissions to use.

  • Aspect Ratio: Either 16:9 or 9:16.

  • Length: Between >90 seconds and <22 minutes.

    • If your film is longer that 22 minutes, you can still submit it and it will still be eligible, however it will affect your Thematic Adherence score.

    • If your film is 9:16 and <90 seconds, you should put it in the Short Form / Social Category

  • Language: Films with dialogue or voiceover must be subtitled OR voiced in English for judging purposes.

  • Creation Date: Made after February 1st, 2025.

  • Tool Usage: Features any AI tool in a significant way. If you are selected as a Sponsor Winner (i.e. The ElevenLabs Award), you will be asked for proof that you used that tool.

  • Optional, but Recommended:

    • We'd appreciate if you could share your film on social media and mention the Chroma Awards! Supporting us online really helps our competition and community grow, allowing us to bring on more sponsors, offer bigger prizes, and facilitate cool opportunities in future seasons.

    • Includes the Chroma Awards Logo at the end of your project

    • In the video description, mentions www.ChromaAwards.com

    • In the video description, lists the tools that were used
